Mary Street Bakery

Having seen mixed reviews about Mary Street Bakery, I decided to give this place a go and trying out their food myself.

I arrived here one very early Sunday morning... about 8am to be exact! This is a very rare thing for someone that likes to sleep in on the weekend! Even at 8am, the place is already busy with diners, especially solo-diners like me, which is a good sign that this place is Solo Diner-Friendly!

Having looked through the menu, I decided to go for the Mushroom sautéed pickled crispy egg mojo crispy parmesan and a side dish of "kim chi" because it sounded yummy.

While waiting for my order to come out, I asked if it's ok for me to take some photos of the place for my blog. Once given permission, I practically bombarded the place with snapshot of photos.....

My food arrived soon after.....

I am not sure what to make of the above dish. I love mushrooms and would always choose a mushroom dish over anything else, but this particular dish with some pickled mushroom was rather..... interesting.
"Kim Chi" ツ
The "kim chi" looks great; I would have been happily grazing this on its own, if it wasn't too salty. I took 3 bites of it and decided to give it a pass as it wasn't worth losing my appetite over.

The verdict: Mary Street Bakery's customer service was fantastic; however the food (on the menu) didn't quite match up to it. Great concept of fusion food aka the "kim chi", but perhaps the method of "fermentation" is not quite right.

Kimchi (Korean: 김치 Korean pronunciation: [kimtɕʰi]), also spelled kimchee or gimchi, is a traditional fermented Korean side dish made of vegetables with a variety of seasonings. It is often described as "spicy" or "sour". (Source: The above "kim chi" was either sour or spicy, it was simply too "salty".

The menu looks interesting, but perhaps too adventurous for me. I wouldn't mind trying out their pastries next time I visit though...

  1. My sis and I are coming here tomorrow. Seeing your post, I think I'm going to feast on my wheatbix before going there to eat the pastries only :P! I'll let my sis be the lab rat!

    Great pics btw!

    1. Hi WenY ツ Thanks for stopping by. Maybe I was just "unlucky" on that particular day or that I am just a fussy eater ツ Think positive but I'm sure your experience will be better than mine! Do keep me posted on what you think of this place. Thanks for the compliment by the way ツ
