Hey Griller

A group of foodies and I got invited to Hey Griller for dinner a few weeks ago. Hey Griller was recently opened in Victoria Park, serving modern Australian with a touch of Asian Fusion grill cuisine.

We started off with a selection of dishes from their Entrée and HGTM Skewers sections.

The Prawn Toasts (4 pcs) topped with sautéed squid, garlic sauce and caviar drizzled with chilli oil came out first.

Followed by the Pan Grilled Squid my favourite! The Pan Grilled Squid (2 pcs) were brushed with herbs and spices and cooked til nice and tender. We were lucky to have one squid each and it was soooo good!

The Lamb & Pork Skewers came out next; I tasted a bit of the lamb skewer but find that the flavouring wasn't as good as the pork and so I went straight for the rest of the pork skewers or as much skewers as I could get my hands on *grinned*

The Embotido of grilled pork and sultana roulade served with smoked corn salsa came out about the same time.

The Chicken & Vegetable Karima of crispy pastry stuffed with chicken / grilled marinated vegetables with adobo chipotle sauce and mayonnaise, served with chips.

I didn't get a chance to taste the Chicken Karima but the Vegetables one with eggplants and zucchinis were so tasty and flavoursome!

For my main, I ordered the perfectly cooked skin on Salmon on top of sautéed vegetables and spinach and a dollop of cauliflower puree sprinkled with roasted pistachios. I was a bit sceptical of the cauliflower puree as it was not something I usually eat but it turned out to be quite tasty and compliments the rest of the ingredients really well.

Everyone seems to raved on the Chocolate and Hazelnut Fudge (served in a cup topped with torched marshmallows and a scoop of ice cream), but I find that it was too sweet for my liking - I much preferred the Grilled Watermelon (served w/ vanilla ice cream and in house made lime sorbet) however, despite it being quite plain and rather simple compared to the torched marshmallows. Yes I liked the simple things in life.

If you're in Victoria Park and want to try something different, why not pop into Hey Griller and check out their menu - I highly recommended the Pan Grilled Squid *yuuuuuum*

Xuân Thủy Bánh Mì Thịt (Vietnamese Bread Rolls)

I am officially in  with this new opening at Alexander Heights Shopping Centre! Not to sound crazy but I have been there at least 10 times since it was open almost 5 weeks ago!

Xuân Thủy Bánh Mì Thịt's menu focused mainly on Bánh Mì Thịt (Vietnamese Bread Rolls) and there are 4 options to choose from, at a bargain price of $5.00 a roll - How good is that?!

The four options are:
  • Bánh Mì Thịt Nguội (Vietnamese Combination Roll)
  • Bánh Mì Xíu Mại (Vietnamese Meatball Roll)
  • Bánh Mì Thịt Quây (Vietnamese Roast Pork Roll)
  • Bánh Mì Nem Nướng (Vietnamese BBQ Roll)
The classic version, Bánh Mì Thịt Nguội, sometimes known as the combination roll is made with various Vietnamese cold meats, such as sliced pork or pork bellies, chả lụa (steamed pork roll), liver paté, Vietnamese mayonnaise, pickled daikon and carrots.
Bánh Mì Thịt Nguội (Vietnamese Combination Roll) $5.00
I was told (by the owner) that their Bánh Mì Thịt, particularly the combination roll was the most sell out item on the menu and I am not at all surprised as their rolls are really good!!

Other items on her menu are Phở (Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup), Bún Bò Huế (Pork & Beef w/ Rice Noodle in Spicy Soup) and Cơm Sườn (Grilled Pork Chop w/ Steamed Rice).
Bún Bò Huế (Pork & Beef w/ Rice Noodle in Spicy Soup) $11.00
Phở (Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup) $11.00
I have tried both the Phở and the Bún Bò Huế and I must admit that these are possibly the best I've eaten in Perth (to date) and the best thing is you can eat these noodle soups any time in the day - be it breakfast, lunch, dinner or even three times a day if you're that keen - because Xuân Thủy BMT opens from 7am - 9pm seven days a week!

The only feedback I have is the lack of Thai Basil and other Asian herbs typically eaten with Phở. I understand that it's hard to get these herbs in winter but if they could add them on in the warmer months, their noodle soups will taste ten times better than what they are now!

The menu also offer Meal Sets, you'll get a choice of 2 dishes with steamed rice for only $8.50 a meal! That's under $10 for lunch or dinner for ya!

Xuân Thủy BMT recently introduced new items such as Bánh Xèo (Vietnamese Sizzling Pancake), Bánh Khọt (Mini Vietnamese Sizzling Pancake) and Bò Cuốn Lá Lốt (Grilled Beef Wrapped in Betel Leaves) onto their menu and I can't wait to try them all out!!!
Bò Cuốn Lá Lốt (Grilled Beef Wrapped in Betel Leaves) $11.00
